Cotton, Steel Wool, Porcelain and Rust

UNSUNK, 2024

Sivan Zeffertt’s artwork, ‘Unsunk’ (2024), was always meant to change with time — to weather, to fade, to eventually let go. As part of its story and intention, this work was created to live in the elements, to surrender to the wind, rain, and sun. Nature has now taken its course, and the installation has reached the end of its life. Thank you, Sivan, for your beautiful contribution to the Art Mile and its gentle reminder that our experience on this Earth is fleeting.

We often associate sculpture with monuments, viewing them as solid and enduring, but time suggests change.

Unsunk engages with an imagined memory of the river, evoking the idea of a boat or a net—objects belonging to the river—yet it holds contradictions. A cloth, unlike a boat, would fold and wash away; it cannot even serve as a sail. The steel wool thread will rust, the cotton may decay, and the porcelain sinkers will chime in the wind, possibly breaking.

Embracing change, Unsunk is anti-monumental, designed to weather and transform, challenging traditional notions of permanence in sculpture.
