ETIENNE DE KOCK
B. 1961
Etienne de Kock’s artworks incorporate movement, mechanics, and interaction. Based in the Western Cape, his work blends fine art with engineering, craftsmanship, and a fascination with motion and time.
De Kock works across a wide range of mediums and skills, including bronze casting, blacksmithing, woodworking, welding, mould-making, and stone carving. Beyond sculpture, he has also been involved in set-building, boat design, and teaching. His lifelong interest in sailing and traditional boat design often informs the mechanical and rhythmic qualities of his artworks.
