Moederkerk Tree Celebration

You are invited to a gentle, informal gathering as part of the Stellenbosch Art Mile, to celebrate the life of the Moederkerk Oak Tree and the new legacy it inspires, a work of art.

Moederkerk Tree Celebration
Wednesday, 6 August 2025
Meet at 13:00 | Celebration begins at 13:15
Outdoor Classroom, Eersterivier
(across from Paul Roos Gymnasium entrance)

Led by Ds Jan van Zyl and Stellenbosch Art Mile founder Charité Mouton, this moment of reflection honours the Moederkerk Oak Tree that stood for generations in the heart of town.

Its story continues in a new installation, When the Wind Speaks, installed by Jeroen Slee, son of architect Johan Slee. The work features mirrored discs engraved with the words of Rumi, suspended in balance above the river.

We hope you’ll join us for this quiet celebration of growth, memory, and the enduring connection between nature and art.
