Marco Cianfanelli

Marco Cianfanelli (b. 1970, Johannesburg) is a South African artist who graduated with distinction in Fine Art from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1992. He has held seven solo exhibitions and received major awards such as the ABSA L’Atelier and Ampersand Fellowship.

Known for large-scale public sculptures, he contributed to The Freedom Park in Pretoria and created the monumental work Release, marking the 50th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s capture site. His recent projects span Abu Dhabi, Texas and the Netherlands.

Cianfanelli’s practice combines digital data with expressive form, exploring themes of identity, society, economics and human experience. His works are held in major public and private collections in South Africa, Europe and the United States, including the MoMA in New York and the Smithsonian.
