Atang Tshikare

B. 1980

Atang Tshikare (b. 1980, Bloemfontein) is a Cape Town–based multidisciplinary artist articulating visionary African identity through Afrofuturistic and experimental forms. Influenced by his father’s visual activism, Tshikare works across bronze, ceramics, glass, stone, and wood. His zoomorphic and biomorphic forms draw on Tswana heritage, vernacular architecture, and southern African landscapes, balancing organic tactility with minimal design. Internationally recognized, he bridges tradition and innovation, cultivating curiosity and cultural dialogue. His practice continues to expand global perceptions of African art and design, positioning him among the leading voices shaping contemporary African creativity through myth, landscape, and material experimentation.
