SEBABATSO
Sebabatso draws on the Barolong myth of a guardian at Thaba ’Nchu, the sacred “Black Mountain.” The hybrid creature, part bird of paradise, part ostrich, embodies resilience, elegance, and strength. Cast in bronze, its unfurling, lattice-like form conveys lightness, permeability, and unseen energies carried by wind and ritual. Rooted in ancestral myth, it functions as protector and contemporary sculpture, mediating between ecological memory and spiritual guardianship. By merging African cosmology with modern design, Sebabatso invites reverence, imagination, and care for land and community. It celebrates beauty and endurance, affirming guardianship as timeless responsibility within cultural and ecological contexts.
